The Day Skipper theory course comprehensively covers the whole syllabus under the RYA training scheme.

The Day Skipper Theory Certificate, combined with the Day Skipper Practical Course Certificate, will lead to the award of “The International Certificate of Competence (ICC)”. This is recognised world wide as a valuable qualification for the Skipper of a small yacht or motor vessel.

Additionally, most Yacht Charter companies look on the ICC as the minimum qualification necessary before permitting yacht charter. Thus, with your ICC, the world of sailing is opened up to you without even the necessity of owning your own vessel.

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship. Invaluable for learning how to start making decisions on board and if you are considering taking the Day Skipper practical course.

  • Pre-course experience: Some practical experience desirable
  • Assumed Knowledge: None
  • Course content: Basic seamanship and introduction to navigation and meteorology. A basic knowledge of lights, weather and IRPCS is also included.
  • Ability after course: Sufficient knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day.
