The School of Navigation & Seamanship (SONAS) is a Royal Yachting Association Training Centre based in Nottingham near to Junction 25 of the M1 Motorway. SONAS also works in association with East Anglian Sailing School, Carsington Sports & Leisure, CeeJay Survival, the Ocean Youth Trust and the Schooner Johanna Lucretia.
We are ideally placed to assist students in the East Midlands who wish to gain RYA qualifications. The RYA Cruising Scheme is an International Scheme offering first class tuition for persons wishing to sail offshore.

SONAS is an approved RYA Recognised Shorebased Training Centre and is approved to deliver RYA Certificated Courses covering the RYA Interactive Essential Navigation & Seamanship,  Day Skipper, Yachtmaster Coastal/Yachtmaster Offshore and Yachtmaster Ocean. In addition RYA One Day Courses are held to cover Sea Survival, First Aid, SRC VHF Radio, Radar and Diesel Engine Maintenance.

We are involved with the East Anglian Sailing School in the delivery of RYA Practical Courses. We are therefore able to assist our pupils along the pathway to become better and more experienced offshore sailors with higher RYA qualifications.
In addition we also provide adventurous leisure sailing opportunities for those who just wish to go to sea for enjoyment.

If you would like to go to sea in a sailing yacht or motor boat, then we have the course to help you make the most of the opportunities to get afloat, and give you the confidence to enjoy your sport safely.

Built around the Royal Yachting Association National Cruising Scheme, we can provide:

• Hands on experience in sea going pleasure yachts
• Practical courses to try out and develop your skills
• Short courses on topics of special interest to sailors
• Refresher courses to keep you up to date with developments in the boating world.
